BMW Car Finance

The leading uk car finance provider

BMW buyers can be choosing between a compact 1 Series, an executive 3 Series, a large SUV, a fully electric i model or an M car with a much higher purchase price. BMW car finance can spread that cost, but the best structure depends on mileage, deposit, how long you expect to keep the car and whether you want ownership at the end.

Enjoy Finance explains the main funding routes and links to third-party providers. We do not provide finance directly, and the website contains affiliate links.

How does BMW car finance work?

BMW Financial Services currently offers BMW Select, Hire Purchase and Personal Contract Hire. BMW Select is the brand’s PCP product, Hire Purchase works towards ownership, and Contract Hire is built around returning the car after an agreed period.

BMW Select and the Guaranteed Future Value

BMW Select combines an initial deposit with fixed monthly payments and an Optional Final Payment. BMW sets a Guaranteed Future Value at the beginning of the agreement, which becomes the amount payable if you decide to keep the car.

At the end, you can pay the Optional Final Payment and keep the BMW, part-exchange it after settling the finance, or return it subject to the mileage and condition requirements.

If the market value is higher than the Guaranteed Future Value, there may be equity available. If it is lower, returning the car can limit your exposure to the drop in value, subject to the agreement terms.

Read Personal Contract Purchase for a wider explanation of PCP.

Return condition matters more than many buyers expect

BMW publishes detailed return standards for Select and Contract Hire customers. Normal use is accepted, but damage outside fair wear and tear can lead to charges.

Scratches, dents, tyres, glass, interior trim and missing equipment can all affect the final inspection. BMW also offers a complimentary pre-inspection before handover, giving you time to review potential repairs.

Contributions and APRs can move independently

BMW regularly uses manufacturer deposit contributions on selected cars financed through BMW Financial Services. Promotional APRs can also vary sharply across the range.

Current offers show some 1 Series, 3 Series and electric models on lower promotional rates than other vehicles. Manufacturer support can change by model and campaign.

When comparing BMW car finance, look at the customer deposit, manufacturer contribution, APR, monthly payments, Guaranteed Future Value and total amount payable together. A lower APR does not always create the lowest overall cost if another offer includes stronger manufacturer support.

Hire Purchase suits ownership and higher mileage

BMW Hire Purchase has no annual mileage restriction. You pay a deposit followed by fixed monthly payments, then own the car once all required payments have been made.

There is no large Optional Final Payment reducing the regular instalments, so monthly payments can be higher than on an equivalent Select agreement.

That can suit someone who covers high mileage or already knows they want to keep the BMW for several years. Read What is HP Car Finance? for more information.

Electric BMWs add charging to the finance decision

The BMW electric range now includes models such as the i4, i5, i7, iX1, iX2, iX3 and iX.

BMW Financial Services allows customers to finance a home EV charger alongside the car, while BMW’s preferred home-charging supplier currently offers equipment with standard installation included in the charger price where the property qualifies.

That means BMW car finance on an EV should be compared alongside home charging, public charging, insurance and annual mileage. Rates can also differ between electric, petrol and plug-in hybrid models.

The model changes what matters most

The BMW 1-Series Car Finance page is relevant to buyers looking for a smaller premium hatchback, where commuting mileage and monthly budget may carry more weight.

The BMW 3-Series Car Finance page covers one of BMW’s core executive models, while BMW 5-Series Car Finance is more relevant to buyers comparing higher purchase prices, plug-in hybrid versions and business use.

For larger SUVs, BMW X5 Car Finance covers a model where specification, insurance, tyres and fuel or charging costs can make a noticeable difference to the wider budget.

M models need a higher-value comparison

An M3, M5 or XM can cost considerably more than a mainstream BMW, and options can add thousands of pounds to the purchase price.

That does not automatically mean a specialist lender is required, but higher vehicle values can change the deposit, monthly commitment and underwriting available. Independent premium-car lenders can also offer different structures.

When looking at BMW car finance for an M model, check how the lender treats specification, final payment and vehicle value rather than assuming the same structure used for a standard 3 Series will translate directly.

Insurance, tyres, brakes and servicing also belong in the ownership budget.

Approved Used finance can work differently

BMW Approved Used cars can be funded through BMW Select or Hire Purchase. Current manufacturer campaigns can give younger electric or plug-in hybrid used cars different rates from older stock.

Check age, mileage, service history, tyres, previous repairs and remaining warranty. On an electric BMW, battery warranty deserves attention too.

Before choosing finance for a used BMW, compare the manufacturer-backed quote with other funding and look at the total amount payable rather than only the monthly figure.

Compare the car and the agreement together

BMW Select can suit drivers who value end-of-term choices. Hire Purchase is more direct for ownership and removes mileage limits, while Contract Hire works for drivers who plan to return the vehicle.

Before choosing BMW car finance, compare the deposit, APR, manufacturer contribution, monthly payment, mileage allowance, total amount payable and any Optional Final Payment. If the car is electric or an M model, include charging or higher running costs in the same budget.

Enjoy Finance provides information about vehicle funding and may link to third-party providers. Any quote, application or agreement is supplied by the relevant third party and remains subject to its own eligibility, affordability checks and terms.

FAQs

What is BMW Select?

BMW Select is BMW Financial Services’ PCP product. It combines a deposit and monthly payments with a Guaranteed Future Value and Optional Final Payment, then gives you choices to keep, part-exchange or return the car at the end.

Can I get BMW car finance on a used car?

Yes. BMW Select and Hire Purchase can both be available on BMW Approved Used cars, while independent providers may offer other routes. Vehicle age, mileage, value and your circumstances can affect the available terms.

Does BMW offer deposit contributions?

BMW uses manufacturer deposit contributions on selected models financed through BMW Financial Services. Availability and value can change by model and promotional period.

Is BMW Hire Purchase suitable for high-mileage drivers?

It can be. BMW states that Hire Purchase has no annual mileage limit, while Select and Contract Hire use agreed mileage figures that can lead to extra charges if exceeded when the car is returned.

What happens if a BMW is damaged when I return it?

BMW allows normal fair wear and tear, but damage outside its published return standards can lead to charges. BMW offers a pre-inspection process so customers can review the condition before final handover.
